The painting that spanned years… I didn’t set out for this painting to take as long as it did. The more time I spent with it, the more I felt I needed to pause to extract the message.
In essence we’re always transforming, gradually becoming different versions of ourselves in the small choices we make day to day. However, this woman has overcome her obstacles and achieved inner freedom. For some, that’s allowing ourselves to pursue our passion, start that new business or end a relationship. After all, endings are just new beginnings in disguise. Often much needs to be released for a new start to truly happen. We can’t bring the old “us” into that new life we’re creating if we want things to be different.
Letting go of our old selves can feel like a death. We become attached to the way we see ourselves, to our routines and patterns – for better or worse. In this painting I captured what it’s like on the other side of that fear, which is total freedom and the ability to create what you want.
